On February 9th, Junior Andrea Corro was one of 2,611 students awarded the National Center for Women and Information Technology’s (NCWIT) Computing Award.
“This award is for high school girls who show an inclination in the technology field,” explained Corro.
Along with winning this award, Corro has been invited to attend a conference at Alverno College on April 22 to meet with other NCWIT winners. While at the conference, the awardees will be introduced to job opportunities, scholarships, and outreach programs.
On receiving this award, Corro was very excited.
“I wasn’t expecting to win, so it came as a huge surprise,” said an elated Corro.
Corro has put in extra effort to further her knowledge in technology. Last summer, Corro attended a pre-college program at Columbia University, where she took the class Introduction to C. This course taught the basics of the programming language C.
Corro also knows how to program in Visual Basic, Java, and Swift.
Additionally, Corro is a member of both the Craig Zero Robotics team and the Rock County Rock’n Robotics team.
This award is very important to Corro because, “it proves that all of the time I have been putting into learning about technology has paid off.”
