FNHS Welcomes New Members and Celebrates Seniors
by gabby petruzzello
As a tradition that started in 1949 by the Presidential Order of the American Association of Teachers of French, Craig continued the tradition through the induction of selected applicants for French National Honors Society(FNHS). The ceremony took place on May 20th and celebrated the new members, as well as the departing seniors.
Members are inducted through a torch transfer process.
The president and vice president of the club, Stephanie Wang and Cecelia Bittner, ignited the first flame saying,“We transfer to you with this torch our enthusiasm and our motto, ‘L’homme qui sait deux langues en vaut deux.’” This phrase means: A man who speaks two languages is worth two people.
The organization that started this process of induction is the American Association of Teachers of French.
“The aim of this organization is to stimulate interest in the study of French, promote high standards of scholarship, to reward scholastic achievement, to create enthusiasm for and an understanding of francophone culture and civilization, to promote and perpetuate international friendships, (and) to reward efforts toward further solidarity,” explained FNHS advisor Madame Tralmer.
The inductees included: Lauren Glissendorf, Amy Groshan, Madeline Grund, Makayla Kersten, Émilie Létourneau, Alex Linde, Kayley Magee, Vanessa Pantoja, Gabriella Petruzzello, Charley Roe, Hannah Schwark, Alyssa Strampe, and Cameron Welsh.
“I want to say to the inductees félicitations, congratulations, I appreciate your enthusiasm for French, I wish you the best as you continue your studies,” said Madame Tralmer.
Seniors who received their chords included: Cecilia Bittner, Michelle Chung, Alicia Contreras, Tania Corona, Grace, Drost, Marie Jensen, Benjamin Kopnick, Ama Kyereme, Zoe Long, Cynthia Meier, Maria Mendoza, Sarah Naatz, Alexia Peterson, Elizabeth Petruzzello, Emily Regenold, Savanna Rhodes, Rachel Roth, Lauren Schumacher, Hannah Schwark, Anne Therese Slatter, Lauren VanRemortel, Stephanie Wang, and Chloe Wasson.
With pride, Madame Tralmer said to the seniors, “Merci beaucoup, courage, bonne chance, and félicitations. I know you all have such bright and exciting futures. I feel honored to have worked with each and every member of this years graduating seniors, especially all four years. It’s especially rewarding for me to see how you’ve grown into such bright adults, and now you’re moving onto the next phase of your life. All of you have worked hard to achieve this honor and all of you will do great things.”
