Letter from the editor: end of year pressures
As the end of the year approaches, so does the anxiety about tests.
Whether they be the AP tests in May or a teacher that still gives finals despite the new system, or just fear of any kind of test and knowing there are still plenty to come, students are still nervous about the school year’s end.
For some students, it’s a choice between their jobs or their homework
For freshmen, it may be a matter of never having this much pressure on them when it comes to academics.
Whatever the reason, students can rest assured knowing it is much easier at the end of the year than in the past.
The last time Craig mandated finals was the school year of 2015-2016, and since them it seems fewer and fewer teachers are making their students take the large reviews of the year’s topics.
This also means half the school, this year’s freshmen and sophomores, could realistically never have taken a final exam.
Are the fears simply lingering from both the reputations and memories of finals? Or is there a reason?
Most other high schools in the area still have finals, so it could be an empathetic nervousness, that of other people the same age as students.
However, it could just be anxiety about the loss of structure that comes from not being in school.
Whatever the reason, students can rest assured that at this point the stress of finals week in years past will not have to be felt, and unless they are an AP student, they can also take comfort in knowing not all teachers have large, especially difficult tests planned in the next few weeks left in the school year.
On top of that, summer is closer than ever, and with that, students need not worry. The end is just around the corner, and after June 13th, students can do what they want, when they want.
