Mr. moore bids adieu: an open letter to craig
by ryan moore
Students and Staff of Joseph A Craig High School, I would like to thank you all.
I had the wonderful opportunity to work as Mr. Holmquist’s student teacher.
Along the way I have learned valuable lessons. One is that “Craig Kids” are resilient.
Never before have I seen such heart and dedication in the minds of high school students. I will remember this experience because I saw so much heartbreak, but so much more strength. As an English teacher I was able to read the amazing stories that many of you decided to share with me. Students with every reason to give up but the drive to keep going forward.
Their drive and commitment to bettering themselves is a trait to be admired.
My experience has also allowed for me to see how much a community can build up a school.
When witnessing the honor wall ceremony, for example, I saw a group of Craig graduates that had truly deserved to be remembered.
That, my ambitious students, is what I hope you each set forward as your goal: to make a difference in the lives of the people in your community in whatever way you can. You all have the ability to make a difference.
To my fellow teachers, thank you. Thank you for every time that I felt included. Thank you for every time you helped me see my strengths and my weaknesses.
Most importantly, thank you all for all of your hard work, dedication, and passion that you display daily that makes a difference in your students’ lives. You all have set wonderful examples that display how to approach each day.
Joseph A. Craig High School staff, students, and community thank you for this experience.
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryan D. Moore
