This year’s post prom will be held at Riversedge Bowl starting at 11:30. The Criterion spoke with Xandi, the JM4C’s Project Coordinator.
What is Janesville Mobilizing 4 Change and its mission?
Janesville Mobilizing 4 Change (JM4C) is a state certified prevention agency with a focus
on reducing substance use and promoting mental wellness.
Our mission is that “together we create a safer, healthier community.”
How long has the organization existed?
Janesville Mobilizing 4 Change started in 2011 by applying for the Drug Free Communities Grant and has expanded into several different grant areas since.
What other activities and events does your organization sponsor? Janesville Mobilizing 4 Change
is working with Youth2Youth
4 Change in both of the High Schools as well as Franklin and Marshall Middle Schools. The kids in our groups get to go
around to other schools in the Rock County area and do presentations about how nicotine, alcohol and other drugs affect your brain and body. The youth also propose ideas for change and talk about what they would like to see done differently. Janesville Mobilizing 4 Change and Youth2Youth 4 Change both host take back days for prescription medications and provide free medication lock boxes to anyone that would like one to keep their medications safe.
How many years have you been organizing post prom? This is the first year that we are organizing post prom. We are working with Youth2Youth 4 Change
and really excited to be offer- ing a safe and fun option for
the students after prom. If this year goes well, we hope to be able to offer post prom activities for both Craig and Parker High Schools in the coming years.
How many tickets have you sold?
As of Wednesday we have sold about 15 tickets but interest and ticket sales seem to be increasing
through the week!
How many attendees do you expect or would like to see?
At this point we expect that there will be about 30 students at this year’s event. We would love to see 75! We have collected donations from several community based businesses
to help make this event a
success.
Which organizations have made donations?
Our donors include; The Packers, Firehouse Subs. Grease Monkey, Casey’s General Stores, Wildwood Theater, Culver’s Mac’s Pizza Shack, Italian House, and the Rockford Park District. RiversEdge Bowl is closing their operations down early so that we can have this event there and worked with us to make sure that we could make this event very affordable! We are extremely greatful to be working with such wonderful sponsors!
