Show choir debuts season with preview night

Craig Spotlighters and Illuminations have lived up to their names as they light up the stage.
The two show choirs started off their season with the Craig Show Choir Preview on Thursday, January 4, finishing well against several schools.
On January 6, Spotlighters went out of state to perform at the Prairie Premiere in Cedar Rapids, IA, returning home with a 3rd place finish and an award for Best Ballad.
A couple of weeks later on January 20, both Spotlighters and Illuminations performed at the Milton Rock the Rock Invitational. SPOTS was named Grand Champion and received awards for Best Vocals and Best Choreography. Illuminations also claimed a first place victory. In the One More Light Medley, Morgan Stengel strongly executed a solo. For Illuminations, Aurora Strommen performed a solo in the song, I don’t want to be.
The following weekend on January 27, Craig Spotlighters performed at the La Crosse Central Grand River Show Choir Invitational and received First Runner Up (2nd place), while claiming the award of Best Opener. The show choir of Cedar Rapids Washington High School “Momentum”, claimed the victory receiving Best Vocals, Best Choreography, Best Band, and Best Ballad. Spotlighters were initial leading with a placement of one in the Prelims.
Illuminations also claimed a Number two slot, falling behind “Celebration” from Cedar Rapids Washington High School.
In recent events, the show choirs performed at the Fort Atkinson Showcase on February 10, 2018. Both the Illuminations and the Spotlighters took 2nd place. Spotlighters was robbed of a 1st place finish by one point. Spotlighters received the award of Best Band.
Looking ahead, the Davenport Great River Show Choir Invitational on February 17 in Davenport, IA will include eight groups for the Spotlighters to compete against and four for Illuminations.
In March, the show choirs will perform at the Chicagoland Showcase on March 3 and the Spotlight Spectacular on March 10, which will take place at Craig High School.
