SIS Group Hashtag T-Shirts Commemorate National and Personal Issues

On April 4, SIS wore hashtag t-shirts that represented each individual student’s passions.
“It is your personal social issue, what you feel passionate about. Some of it is pride in who you are,” said SIS group supervisor, Stephanie Gates.
The hashtag t-shirts commemorated national movements, like Black Lives Matter, as well as other personal statements that SIS members wanted to support and show Craig High School.
SIS initially planned to wear their shirts “in February, to kick off Black History Month,” informed Stephanie Gate, but the group eventually decided to display their shirts on the day of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination to honor this impactful event.
On April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated, exactly 50 years ago.
The hashtag T-shirt idea “was a group effort,” said Gates. “I kind of throw out things that we need to do and it just kind of evolved.”
After talking about various ideas, “and the next thing you know it was about our personal hashtag with our black shirts.”
