All Hallow’s Day or All Saint’s Day among Roman Catholics. 1848- In Boston, the rst medical school for women, Boston Female Medical School, opens. Founded by Samuel Gregory, started with just twelve students November 4 1842- Abraham Lincoln mar- ries Mary Todd in Spring eld, Illinois. 1890- First electri ed under- ground railway system opens in London. 1992- King Tut’s tomb is discovered, by archaeologist Howard Carter, at Luxor, Egypt. November 6 1860- Abraham Lincoln is elected as 16th president of the United States. November 8 1939- Assassination attempt of Hitler at Buergerbraukeller in Munich fails. 1847- Bram Stoker, author of Dracula is born in Dublin, Ire- land. November 9 1872- Great Boston Fire starts at dry-goods warehouse and destroys nearly 800 build- ings. November 11 Veteran’s Day, formerly called Armistice Day 1918- 5am:Armistice between the Allied and Central Power is signed, silencing guns of World War I at 11am- the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Many places in Europe, there’s a moment of silence for the mil- lions of fallen soldiers. 1885- George S. Patton, World War II General is born in San Gabriel, California. November 12 1923- Adolf Hitler is arrested in Germany after fail of Beer Hall Putsch. November 15 1777- Articles of Confedera- tion are adopted by Continental Congress. 1864- During Civil War, Union troops burn Atlanta. 1943- During the Holocaust, Heinrich Himmler orders Gyp- sies to be sent to concentra- tion camps. Nazis killed about 500,000 Gypsies. 1969- Largest antiwar rally occurs. 250,000 people come together in Washington D.C. to protest Vietnam War. |

1493- Columbus discovers Puerto Rico during his second voyage to New World. 1863- President Abraham Lin- coln gives Gettysburg Address. November 20 1789- New Jersey becomes rst state to ratify the Bill of Rights. 1917- First tanks used in bat- tle at Cambrai, France during World War I. 1925- Robert F. Kennedy is born in Brookline, Massachu- setts. November 22 1963- President John F. Ken- nedy is assassinated on Elm Street, in Dallas Texas. Shot at 12:30 pm, died at 1 pm. Lyn- don B. Johnson was sworn into presidency on Air Force One at 2:38 pm. November 25 1783- Last of British troops left New York City at the end of the Revolutionary War. 1963- John F. Kennedy is bur- ied at Arlington National Cem- etery with full military honors. 1881- Pope John XXIII is born in Sotte il Monte, Italy. Mr. Holmquist was born in 1966 November 26 1703- “Great Storm” lasting two days hits southern part of England, ooding Thames and Severn Rivers and killing over 8,000 people. 1789- First American holiday occurs, Thanksgiving Day, pro- claimed by President George Washington. 1607- John Harvard, founder of Harvard College in born in London. |
