On the day before Valentine’s Day, the Cougar girls achieved their second highest score of the season but fell to ninth-ranked Sun Prairie by a score of 133.050-124.925.
“We had some falls and missed connections, but overall it was good,” said coach Jean Welch. “We had a lot of kids sick last week. We are back up to where we need to be.”
The Cougars are ranked 16th in the latest poll, and have done it with young team. Their only senior is Alexis Andrews.
In the vault, the Cougars’ top finisher was sophomore Ariyana Stalsberg, who scored an 8.45 to finish 4th. Stalsberg continued her strong performance with a second place finish on the bars, scoring an 8.1, and a third place finish on the floor with an 8.825. Sophomore Phoebe Werner took 5th in two events with a 7.7 on the bars and an 8.15 on the floor.
In the all around, Craig took places four through six. Phoebe Werner scored a total of 32 for 4th, Alexis Andrews was 5th with a 30.3, and sophomore Gracie Hill was 6th with 29.55.
The Big Eight conference meet will be held on Saturday, February 17, at Middleton.
The meet starts at 10.
“We hope to keep scoring where we are,” said Welch.
