Job Skills 2 students made deer corn pillows to sell for staff at $8 a piece. Their teacher Ms. Hantorn wrote in an email, “The purpose of this project was to teach the students about working together in order to manage time, materials and space as well as listening to others’ ideas and problem solve. None of the students had any experience with fundraising.
The first task was to try to come up with ideas on what to sell and choose who their consumers would be. They decided that they would focus on the staff and eventually began to reach out in the community. A few weeks ago opened sales up to the students of Craig by announcing the sale for a week in the daily announcements. Every bit of communication was the responsibility of the students and included typing the instructions, answering emails, creating flyers and determining the best wording for the announcements. Throughout this project the students had opportunities to research various stores for the best price of feed corn and fabric stores for the material and thread . Once they calculated what was need- ed, they had to decide on a design for their product based on two options. There were several “practice” pillows of each kind made and it was determined that one square pillow was more cost efficient and less time consuming to make than a longer 3-pocket pillow. They sent a complimentary pillow to our Superintendent Steve Pophal and one for his wife. He sent the class a thank you note highly endorsing the product. They gained skills that can be used at home such as ironing material and sewing.”
